Escuela Gautier Benitez
Casa Dominicana
San Juan, P.R. 2016
The complete rehabilitation of an historic public school dating from the 1920s for use as a comunal service facility in Santurce, principly for expatriots from the Dominican Republic.
The 13,000 sq. ft., two level, structure was reconstructed with new electrical plumbing, windows, doors and other essential elements to conform with contemporary requirements.
Designed in a "mission" style, this building is a highly regarded icon within the community. Abandoned and bandalized for more than a decade, its rehabilitation gives the neighborhood a new cultural and comunal focal point, which is expected to contribute to the upgrading of the urban fabric.
