Design of a new single-family second home in a lot within the Las Quintas, Playa Sardinas (Melones) sector in the Culebra municipality. The site (Tropical semi-dry climate) is particularly challenging due to the very steep slope for construction, but the natural configuration of the area also emphasizes breathtaking views of the Luis Peña Natural Reserve on one side and dense natural foliage that provide privacy from the other neighbors, which will remain as part of the project.
The owner brought in a particular challenge as to how to accommodate his family which consist of ten (10) children that need facilities that accommodate them and the ever-expanding generations to come in one place to bond together (two [2] of which are married, and one needs ADA accommodations). Although it is unlikely for the whole family to be together at the same time, the program requires a bedroom for each offspring, guests, and a nurse.

As an exercise in minimalism, a reduced version of the house was developed, occupying the lower Southwest corner of the lot.
